Henrico, VA Termite & Pest Control
The area surrounding Henrico has been the site of a great deal of American history. The nearby Curles Neck Farm has been in active use since 1635, and during the 1670s, ownership transferred to Nathaniel Bacon, the leader of Bacon's Rebellion. At various times, the farm has produced tobacco, bred horses and been the home of extensive dairy operations. When the past is combined with the scenic countryside of Henrico County, it is easy to see why the area continues to attract visitors from Richmond and beyond. To keep their homes protected, residents often rely on professional pest control services to deal with some of the area's common intruders.
Three types of termites can be found in the Henrico area. Drywood termites prefer wood that has lost its moisture and are known to invade the interior of buildings. They can attack furniture, support beams, wallpaper, documents and even fabrics and artwork. Dampwood termites normally feed on wet or rotting wood found outside, but they will frequently invade buildings that have damp wood due to a leaking or broken pipe. Subterranean termites build their nests in the ground, utilizing mud tubes to travel to food sources. These termites are especially aggressive in their feeding habits and breed prolifically. Termites are responsible for more than $5 billion in damages annually throughout the United States; infestations often go unnoticed until the extent of damage is already severe. Professional help is needed to eradicate termites.
Cockroaches are one of the most troublesome pests that can invade a home. Roaches are difficult to kill, reproduce quickly and abundantly, can squeeze into even the tightest spaces and are known to carry a variety of diseases. Due to the secretive nature and nocturnal habits of cockroaches, a major infestation can occur before a homeowner becomes aware that a roach problem exists. Most roaches are less than an inch in length and reddish-brown, brown or tan in color, but Asian cockroaches are larger and black in color. Because cockroaches can hide behind walls, baseboards, paneling and in other inaccessible locations, it typically requires professional pest control methods to eliminate an infestation.
Whether it is their eight-legged gait, the annoying webs that they weave or simply the difficulty in differentiating between harmful and benign varieties, spiders tend to make humans immensely uncomfortable. Most spiders prefer to make their homes outside, but during cold weather or when looking for food or a mate, even outdoor spiders can venture indoors. Although all spiders can produce venom, most do not have venom that is capable of causing more than mild irritation to the skin. However, the black widow and the brown recluse are capable of producing venoms that can cause serious problems if a human is bitten. A black widow can be identified by the red hourglass marking on its underside. Brown recluses are tan to brown in color with a marking on the back resembling a violin, leading these spiders to be referred to as fiddlebacks. Controlling spiders typically requires eliminating the insects or other conditions that are encouraging spiders to move indoors.
